Electric vehicle usage by UVA facilities has increased drastically. The 275% increase in EV usage comes with the new use of battery-powered landscaping equipment. While Grounds still needs many more charging stations and still has a l9ng way to go before the 2030 goals are reached, the director the UVA Office for Sustainability, Andrea Trimble, said “Transitioning the University’s fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles, and supporting the development and implementation of renewable energy options, are important strategies in achieving UVA’s goals to be carbon neutral by 2030, to be fossil fuel-free by 2050, and to reduce nitrogen losses to the environment by 30% by 2030”.
